Flamingos lieben den Bogoriasee. Dieser ist an manchen Stellen bis zu 70 Grad Celsius heiß und so salz- und mineralhaltig, dass es ätzend wirkt.

Wo liegt Bogoriasee?

Der Bogoriasee ist 180 Kilometer von der kenianischen Hauptstadt Nairobi entfernt. Der Bogoriasee ist ein Teil des Ostafrikanischen Grabenbruchs. Der See ist ca. 17 Kilometer lang und 4 Kilometer breit. Er zählt zum Bogoria National Reserve.

Was macht den artenreichen See in Kenia so besonders?

Zum Bogoriasee fährt niemand zum Schwimmen. Das Gewässer ist dank seiner Geysire an manchen Stellen bis zu 70 Grad Celsius heiß und so salz- und mineralhaltig, dass es ätzend wirkt. 

Es sei denn, man ist ein Zwergflamingo – den in Millionenstärke auftretenden Vögeln macht das Fußbad nichts aus. Die dünnen Beine halten dem aggressiven Wasser stand, die Schnäbel sind zudem perfekt geeignet, um das Cyanobakterium Arthrospira aus dem Wasser zu filtern, die Lieblingsspeise der rosafarbenen Wasservögel.

Auch der Mensch mag es, unter dem Namen »Spirulina« gilt es als Superfood AMAZON-AFFILIATE-LINK.

Neben den Flamingos gibt es 135 Vogelarten, die den Bogoriasee besonders für Vogelkundler interessant machen.

Im Uferbereich bilden Akazienwälder und Papyrussümpfe Lebensräume für Säugetiere wie Impalas, Dikdiks, Antilopen, Zebras und Warzenschweine. Der See ist gut als Tagestour ab Nairobi zu erreichen. 

Und natürlich gehört die Seenlandschaft im Great Rift Valley seit 2011 zum UNESCO-Welterbe. Oft sind die schönsten Orte ein UNESCO-Welterbe. Ich durfte zum Glück einige dieser Orte sehen. 

Wann ist die beste Reisezeit für Bogoriasee?

Fotografen und Vogelkundler sind am Bogoriasee zu jeder Jahreszeit glücklich. Rund um Nairobi herrscht zwischen Mitte März und Mai Regenzeit.
